Stair-stepping is the method of installing fence panels level at progressively lower elevations to follow sloped terrain, creating a staircase-like profile. It is required for vinyl and pre-fabricated composite fence panels that cannot be angled or racked. The result is a clean appearance from a distance, though ground-level gaps appear under each step.
