So, it’s getting closer to build day, and we’re excited to work with you. There are a few things we need to think through to ensure your project goes smoothly. The first is we need to find your property lines and we do that by finding your property pins and we have a whole another video that talks about that.
If a building permit is required we will help take care of that. If you have a homeowners association we encourage you to reach out to them and we’ll let you take care of that. It might be as simple as an email exchange back and forth where they give you approval. Relatedly, we encourage you to talk with your neighbors.
Perhaps they were thinking about getting a fence or they might have some opinions. Most importantly, we don’t want to surprise them when we show up and start working. If you have some sprinkler lines, please locate those so we can minimize the chance of damage to them when we dig holes or pound posts.
Also, if you have things in the way, please move them such as a wood pile, kids toys, brush, and if you have any dog landmines, please pick those up as well. So these are a few things to think about. We’re excited to work with you soon.
Let’s go over this in detail
Preparing for Your Fence Installation?
As the day of your fence installation approaches, excitement builds for the transformation of your property.
However, to ensure a seamless and successful project, there are several crucial steps you need to take to help you avoid potential pitfalls and pave the way for a smooth fence installation process.
1. Locating Your Property Lines
The first and perhaps most critical step in preparing for your fence installation is identifying your property boundaries. This process involves locating your property pins, which are typically metal rods driven into the ground at the corners of your lot. Accurate property line identification is crucial for several reasons:
- It ensures that your new fence is installed within your property limits.
- It helps prevent disputes with neighbors over boundary lines.
- It guarantees compliance with local zoning laws and regulations.
If you’re unsure about how to find your property pins, don’t worry. Many fencing companies provide detailed guidance on this process, often through instructional videos or on-site assistance.
2. Handling Permits and Regulations
Navigating the world of building permits and local regulations can be daunting, but it’s a necessary part of the fence installation process. Here’s what you need to know:
Building Permits
In many jurisdictions, installing a fence requires a building permit. The good news is that Thrive Fencing often handle this aspect of the project for you. We are familiar with local requirements and can streamline the permit application process, saving you time and potential headaches.
Homeowners Association (HOA) Approval
If you live in a community governed by an HOA, you’ll likely need to obtain approval before proceeding with your fence installation. This typically involves:
- Reviewing your HOA’s guidelines for fences
- Submitting a proposal or request form
- Waiting for approval from the HOA board
While we may not handle this directly, we can often provide guidance and documentation to support your HOA application.
3. Communicating with Neighbors
Good neighborly relations are invaluable, especially when it comes to property modifications like fence installations. Here’s why reaching out to your neighbors is important:
- It provides an opportunity to discuss shared fencing options
- It allows you to address any concerns they might have
- It prevents surprises and potential conflicts on installation day
Consider having a friendly conversation or leaving a note to inform your neighbors about your plans. You might even discover that they’ve been considering a fence themselves, opening up possibilities for collaboration.
4. Identifying Underground Utilities and Irrigation Systems
Before any digging begins, it’s crucial to identify the location of underground utilities and irrigation systems on your property. This step helps prevent damage to essential services and your lawn’s watering system.
Sprinkler Lines
If you have an in-ground irrigation system, take the time to locate and mark your sprinkler lines. This information will help the installation team avoid damaging these lines when digging holes or driving fence posts. If you’re unsure about the layout of your irrigation system, consider consulting with a landscaping professional.
Other Underground Utilities
While your fencing contractor will likely arrange for utility locating services, it’s always a good idea to be aware of any underground electric, gas, or water lines on your property. This knowledge can help you discuss potential challenges or alternative layouts with your fencing team.
5. Clearing the Installation Area
To ensure a smooth and efficient installation process, it’s important to prepare the area where your new fence will be installed. This preparation involves:
- Removing any obstacles such as woodpiles, children’s toys, or outdoor furniture
- Clearing away brush, overgrown vegetation, or debris along the fence line
- Ensuring the area is accessible for workers and equipment
If you have pets, it’s also courteous (and hygienic) to clean up any “landmines” they may have left in the yard. This simple step can greatly improve working conditions for the installation team.
Setting the Stage for Success
By taking these preparatory steps, you’re not just facilitating the fence installation process – you’re investing in the long-term success and enjoyment of your new fence. Each of these actions plays a crucial role in ensuring that your fence is installed correctly, legally, and with minimal disruption to you and your neighbors.
Remember, we are here to guide you through this process. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or seek clarification on any aspect of the preparation or installation. With proper planning and communication, you’ll be well on your way to enjoying your new fence and the enhanced privacy, security, and aesthetic appeal it brings to your property.
